UPDATE: Since recording this episode, Richie has decided to take his company Fella in a different direction and focus on ‘tacking male obesity’. I very much respect him as a person, but don’t agree with his new direction. I think he shares some great insights into eating disorder recovery in this podcast and it’s important to speak about men’s experiences in a space that is often dominated by female voices.
In this episode we speak about stereotypes around eating disorders and why it isn’t always easy to recognise that you have one if you’re male. Richie Cartwright shares his experience with binge eating, the journey to getting help and founding Fella, [FORMERLY] an online platform to help fellas who binge eat.
Richie runs Fella, a Y Combinator startup to help men tackle binge eating. Fella is a community-driven digital health platform: software to guide you through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), supported by other men going through the same thing. Before Fella, Richie dropped out of a masters at Peking Uni in China to found his first company — an AI transport startup working with the UK government which was later acquired. He’s a self-taught data scientist and studied economics at Cambridge University.
Please remember that this podcast shares opinions and information, it isn’t for the diagnosis or treatment of an eating disorder, mental or physical health issues.
